چکیده
The potential benefits of massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) make it possible to achieve high-quality underwater acoustic (UWA) communications. Nevertheless, due the wideband nature UWA channels, existing MIMO techniques for radio frequency cannot be directly applied This paper investigates a system in shallow-water environment, deploying large array apertures at both transmitter and receiver. We propose beam-based channel model analyze its properties. Based on this model, we reveal that transmit design rate maximization can performed dimension-reduced space related taps. Then, prove beam-domain transmission is optimal maximize when with unlimited numbers transducers. Furthermore, if number hydrophones also tends infinity, power allocation obtained just by water-filling algorithm corresponding positively correlates taps high signal-to-noise-ratio regime. Moreover, devise low-complexity optimize input covariance matrix general cases. Simulation results illustrate significant performance proposed throughput achieved MIMO.

MIMO Underwater Acoustic Communications in Ports and Shallow Waters at Very High Frequency
Hermes is a Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) underwater acoustic modem that achieves very high-bit rate digital communications in ports and shallow waters. Here, the authors study the capability of Hermes to support Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology. A least-square channel estimation algorithm is used to evaluate multiple MIMO channel impulse responses at the receiver end. A dec...
متن کاملUnderwater Acoustic Noise Model for Shallow Water Communications
This article presents an empirical model for the noise of the acoustic underwater channel in shallow water from the analysis of field data measurements. A probability density function for the noise amplitude distribution is proposed and the associated likelihood functions are derived. As a result, an expression to the probability of symbol error for binary signaling is presented for the channel...

متن کاملCovert underwater acoustic communications.
Low probability of detection (LPD) communications are conducted at a low received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to deter eavesdroppers to sense the presence of the transmitted signal. Successful detection at intended receiver heavily relies on the processing gain achieved by employing the direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DSSS) technique. For scenarios that lack a sufficiently low SNR to maintain ...
